President Trump's directive for ICE agents to arrest an unattainable quota of undocumented immigrants posing a threat to U.S. society is resulting in the detainment and deporation of innocent people with no criminal past.

UNITED STATES - In 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is arresting a historically high number of individuals who have no criminal past, a shift that carries serious consequences for undocumented immigrants, the agricultural industry, and everyday Americans. According to ICE data as of mid-2025, approximately 65 percent of those arrested had no criminal convictions, a significant increase compared to prior years. ICE has dramatically ramped up arrests of non-criminal immigrants from roughly 32 per day in early 2024 to over 450 per day by June 2025 — a 14-fold increase—with non-criminal arrests now making up a majority of total detentions.

This aggressive enforcement approach stems from shifts in administration policy and ICE quotas that prioritize arrest numbers over public safety threats. Nearly all those arrested have no violent offense history, with most prior convictions falling into categories like immigration violations or minor traffic offenses—far from the dangerous criminals ICE traditionally claimed it was targeting.

The human cost of this crackdown is profound. Undocumented workers are integral to sectors like agriculture, where their labor is essential for planting, harvesting, and packing. In California alone, farmworkers constitute the vast majority of the labor force; abolition or absence of these workers due to fear of ICE raids has led to crippling labor shortages. Some farmers report up to 70 percent absenteeism, causing billions of dollars in crops to go unharvested and rot in the fields. This not only jeopardizes farmers’ livelihoods—with many facing bankruptcy or emotional devastation—but also severely disrupts supply chains, leading to rising grocery prices for everyday Americans. The impact of lost farm labor echoes tragically beyond economics. Farmers facing mounting pressure and losses have reported despair at the loss of their workforce and the unharvested crops. These stresses have been linked to an unprecedented amount of suicides among farmers who see no way to sustain their operations. Beyond the undocumented immigrants and U.S. farmers, ICE’s faulty enforcement also ensnares U.S. citizens in alarming numbers. Several dramatic cases have surfaced in 2025 where U.S. citizens—some with disabilities, military veterans, or pregnant women—have been wrongly arrested, detained, and even physically mistreated by ICE agents. For example, Sabrina Medina, a pregnant U.S. citizen, was repeatedly detained to serve as bait for her husband's capture despite her innocence. Julio Noriega, with a deep learning disability was detained for hours without proper ID checks and released with no assistance. Disabled veteran George Retes was pepper sprayed and held for days despite proof of citizenship. Such incidents reveal systemic failures and raise urgent civil rights concerns.

These policies and practices have sparked widespread alarm among immigrant communities, civil rights advocates, and lawmakers. Many arrested immigrants have never been charged with violent crimes, yet they experience harsh treatment and family separations. The resulting fear stifles immigrant participation in critical economic activities and fractures communities.

CALL TO ACTION FOR ALL U.S. CITIZENS TO BECOME INVOLVED FOR THE SAFEGUARDING OF OUR NATION

For everyday Americans, the consequences are visibly tangible. Shortages of agricultural labor are threatening our national food security and increasing the costs of food. Innocent U.S. citizens are being caught in ICE raids resulting in extreme trauma, disregarding of civil rights, and undermining the public's trust in U.S. government. ICE’s current tactics prioritize quantity over quality, putting public safety and humanitarian considerations into question. This untenable situation demands public intervention. Citizens must call on our policymakers to:

  • Halt the Mass Arrests by ICE Targeting Immigrants with No Criminal Records
  • End the Wrongful Detention of U.S. Civilians and All Others Through Racial Profiling
  • Demand Full Accountability & Transparency of ICE Operations to Ensure All Officers are Legit
  • End Trump Administration's Practice of Detaining Anyone Without Due Process Under the Law
  • Demand That All People Employed in the United States Have Humane Treatment at Work
  • Demand Sustainable Agricultural Labor Solutions to Preserve Food Security for All of Society
  • Support Comprehensive Immigration Reform That Gives Legal Employment for All Working People

The human and economic costs of this current White House administration and the practices of ICE are too great to ignore. Our nation is currently in an urgent state of crisis. Families of good people are being torn apart. Farmers are losing their livelihoods and commiting suicides at a rate never before seen in all of history. Grocery prices are rising and innocent Americans are caught in the crossfire. The public must demand an immediate stop to this harmful approach before the consequences reach even deeper into the fabric of American society. Only through our collective action as citizens that care for the safeguarding of our nation can a just and practical balance be restored.
